Before YM(yahoo messenger) became a hit or any other messaging services for that matter, chatting was popular through a txt-based chat program called mIRC...
In 1996 when Internet in the Philippines was on its infancy, I was fortunate enough to work in a company that offers Internet services... It was a great learning experience because you're seeing the power of world wide web right in front of your eyes and not by a statement of an Internet guru or your friends from other countries where Internet was first experienced...
The idea of chatting with your friends/would be friends was realized by mIRC... That paved the way for us chatters in Batangas to put up our own channel. Channel Batangas or #batangas was registered in Aug of 1997...Of course as the one who registered it, I became the Channel Manager and 'till now am holding that position... Chatters from all over the world especially Batanguenos joined the channel albeit time differences were not an issue because we rarely sleep back then and it took time for us to admit that we were chat addicts :)
Year 2008, the channel is still up and continue to grow, much younger chatters are the one's frequenting the channel now... Last year we celebrated our 10th anniversary, I was quite sad because the original members weren't there to party with us but I was invigorated in a way that new members are there to keep the channel alive and we're looking forward to another 10 years of chatting, macking and of course who wouldn't want to have an EB(eye ball) with your cyber friends...
